The Blackstone Veterans Initiative
The Blackstone Veterans Initiative includes all portfolio companies as natural members of a shared community of practice. The Initiative hosts an annual Summit, quarterly calls and working groups to focus on specific opportunities that benefit the group. Best practices in sourcing, hiring, training, integrating, developing and retaining veterans will be developed and disseminated across the group. There are also opportunities for past Blackstone portfolio companies, current service suppliers and strategic partners to coordinate efforts with the Blackstone Veterans Initiative. The bulk of these efforts and this output will come from the portfolio companies and be coordinated and enabled with the help of Blackstone and the steering committee.
When we launched the program in 2013, in partnership with President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, four Key Objectives were developed based upon a series of conversations with the portfolio company CEOs, CHROs, Veterans Initiative Champions, and government contacts at the White House, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Labor and the Department of Defense. In addition, we held meetings with dozens of potential strategic partners from the vendor space. We also received input from existing veteran hiring coalitions and internal Blackstone personnel.
